I hoped your departure
it would halt time
that the once green leaves
wouldn't turn gold so soon
that the recently clean streets
wouldn't be covered in snow
once innocent now
defiled by the winds
and chill
the kids playing the yards
now only a vague memory
fading quickly into the horizon
the bright colorful days
now threatened by looming dark clouds full of rain
I prayed that you would forget us
let us catch our breathe
move on to a different place
and away from us
but you returned
too soon
stealing from us again
leaving us where you first left us
robbed, scared and alone
